Cagnes-sur-Mer is interesting located on the Cote d'Azur near Nice, Biot and Vence. The village consists of two parts: a beautiful medieval town called Haut-de-Cagnes, located on the hill and the new Cagnes-sur-Mer closer to the sea which is not too interesting. We visited the old Haut-de-Cagnes.
We parked the car in a very modern automatic underground garage located near the old town, at the Rue du Château street (Parking Le Planastel - P; GPS: 43.668553, 7.145621). You drive into a garage and get out of your car. It is then automatically moved into a slot in a mountain. Then it is also automatically returned back to you - you just get into the car and go. This is an unforgettable experience :).
The heart of the Haut-de-Cagnes is the Grimaldi fortress (A; GPS: 43.667066, 7.145537) from late thirteenth century. The old town is very beautiful. It is slightly less commercial comparing to nearby Saint-Paul-de-Vence, and not so busy. This very pretty medieval village has many enjoyable restaurants and lovely views. The streets are pretty steep but well maintained. Please take the time to walk the streets of this quaint little town. You can also leave the old town and visit the Renoir Museum (Musée Renoir) (B; GPS: 43.667609, 7.157215) located on the Chemin des Collettes in the building where once lived the artist. A walk to the museum will take you about 20 minutes (1.5 km).
