Helfštýn Castle, Czechia (Czech Republic)

Helfštýn is one of the largest castles in Czech Republic, located in Týn nad Bečvou, near Zbrašov Aragonite Caves in Teplice nad Bečvou. A vast complex of ruins is now gradually reconstructed, many cultural events take place here; the most important one is "Hefaiston" - the exhibition of artistic blacksmithing.


Parking near the castle

The location of the Helfštýn castle on a hill among the trees resembles a medieval seat hidden from civilization. However, the location is easily accessible by car. About 250 meters from the castle is available pretty good, however paid parking (P; GPS: 49.517309, 17.630137). We can leave the car here and walk the road leading to the castle.


Visiting the castle

The entrance to the castle is paid (as for 2020): in March normal ticket costs 30 CZK, reduced ticket 20 CZK. In the period April-October prices are as follows: normal ticket 50 CZK, reduced ticket 30 CZK. Children under 6 years have free entry. In the period from November to February the castle is closed. The castle has the character of an extensive architecture of fortification with six gates, many towers and buildings with a system of defensive walls of the eighteenth century. After purchasing tickets at the box office, which is located in the entrance gate (A; GPS: 49.5173217, 17.6264306), we move to a larger space where various events take place; on the right side there is a restaurant where you can eat or drink something. We keep walking the path near the walls on the right side, then we pass through another gate and we're in a place with a large tower (B; GPS: 49.5182375, 17.6284208), which you can also visit and climb. We go over the bridge to the most important buildings of the castle, which are now only a ruins (C; GPS: 49.5187564, 17.6287803) - they are however quite impressive. Additionally, the terrace located behind the building allows you to have a good views of surrounding area.
