Exploring Třeboň
Welcome to Třeboň, one of the most beautiful towns in South Bohemia. Let’s begin our adventure at the town square, Masarykovo náměstí, where we can admire historic townhouses with Baroque and Renaissance facades. Take a moment to notice the town hall with its tall clock tower – from here, we can enjoy a view of the entire town. This place is bustling with life, and during summer, it hosts various festivals and markets.
Next, let’s head to Zámek Třeboň (A; GPS: 49.003270, 14.769513), an impressive Renaissance castle. While strolling through the courtyard, imagine the lives of the aristocrats who once lived here. Adjacent to the castle is the beautiful Zámecký park, perfect for a short break in the shade of old trees. If you’re interested, we can visit the castle's exhibition, which tells the story of the Schwarzenberg family.
Continuing our walk, we arrive at rybník Svět (B; GPS: 49.001056, 14.768794), one of the largest fishponds in the Czech Republic. Did you know that the fishponds in Třeboň are part of the UNESCO World Heritage? Around the pond, there’s a charming walking trail, which we highly recommend for a leisurely stroll or a bike ride.
Walking along Dukelská Street, let’s notice the Jindřichohradecká brána (C; GPS: 49.004295, 14.772381), one of the preserved town gates. It’s a reminder of the town’s former fortifications.
As we continue, we’ll reach the Kostel sv. Jiljí (D; GPS: 49.004844, 14.769614) and the adjacent Augustinian monastery. This is a wonderfully serene and peaceful place, full of atmosphere.
Let’s carry on to visit the Dům Štěpánka Netolického (E; GPS: 49.003980, 14.770660). This Renaissance building hosts an interesting exhibition dedicated to the designer of the fishpond system in the Třeboň area. Here, we can learn more about the fishing tradition and see historic maps and documents.
Next, let’s visit Knížecí Pivovar (F; GPS: 49.002154, 14.771448), one of the oldest breweries in the Czech Republic, established in 1379. Here, we can see the brewing process and taste various beer types in their restaurant. It’s a true treat for beer lovers!
Let’s also visit the Schwarzenberg Mausoleum (G; GPS: 48.993921, 14.765658), a majestic monument located in a beautiful park on the other side of the Svět pond. This place captivates visitors with its architecture and tranquil atmosphere, making it perfect for a moment of reflection.
Finally, let’s head to lázně Aurora (H; GPS: 49.002459, 14.750678), a well-known spa complex. It’s the perfect spot to rejuvenate after a long day of sightseeing. Třeboň is famous for its therapeutic peat resources, which are used in health treatments.
