ZOO in Zlín is a beautiful woodland with the largest collection of birds in Czech Republic. The very charming atmosphere is created primarily by a large castle park which changed to the forest park with lots of ponds and pools of water. As a result, there is a lot of trees and shrubs. The big advantage of ZOO is the allocation of thematic areas on continents (including characteristic motifs from certain parts of the world). There is also a possibility of direct contact with many animals (of course there are some dangerous animals like rhinos and elephants, but for example, you can enter the kangaroos farm). It is simply a ZOO almost without the bars! :)
Zoo is located a few kilometers north of the town of Zlín. You can arrive there on the road 491. At the ZOO there is a very large parking lot with several entrances (1; GPS: 49.271365, 17.715141), so the chance is small that there will be no place for your car. What is important, the parking is free.
Besides driving, the zoo is also easily reachable by public transport from Zlín city center, with a bus stop right at the entrance. The excellent connectivity makes it a hassle-free destination for tourists without a car. The spacious parking area is a testament to the zoo's commitment to visitor convenience, ensuring a smooth start to your day of exploration. This well-thought-out access strategy contributes significantly to the overall positive visitor experience.
Ticket prices depend on the date when you will visit the ZOO. The admission in warmer months is simply more expensive. Since we were here in the summer, we will show you the price list in these months. Adults - 250 CZK; students and seniors - 210 CZK; children from 3 to 15 years - 160 CZK; children under 3 years - free entry.
The zoo offers a tiered pricing system that provides great value, especially for families. It is always wise to check the official ZOO website for potential discounts or special offers, such as afternoon tickets or combined tickets with other local attractions. The CZK prices translate to approximately 10 EUR for adults, 8.50 EUR for students/seniors, and 6.50 EUR for children, making it a very affordable day out for international tourists. The ticket office accepts both cash (CZK) and card payments, making the process convenient for everyone.
As already mentioned, the area of the ZOO is really huge and you can spend an entire day exploring all the available spaces. It's a perfect place to relax for both adults and children - but not only relax, because it is also a source of interesting knowledge. In this ZOO you will see all available animals in their natural habitat - some ZOOs don't show some of the animals to the public. Animals look well cared and well fed. There is also a mini-train, which you can get on and ride around the ZOO area the whole day for a flat fee. If you get hungry, you will find some places in the ZOO where you can rest and eat something. An additional attraction of the ZOO is a tour of beautiful Lešná palace (charges apply - more on the website).
The zoo's thematic division by continents, including Africa, Asia, Australia, and South America, makes the visit a fascinating journey around the world. Each section is designed with architectural elements and vegetation that reflect its respective continent, creating an immersive experience for visitors. For example, the African section features a grand savanna where rhinos and giraffes roam, while the Asian section showcases tigers in a beautifully landscaped habitat. This thoughtful layout helps visitors learn about global biodiversity in an engaging and memorable way.
If you get hungry during your visit, you'll be pleased to find several places throughout the zoo where you can rest and enjoy a meal or a snack. The food stalls and restaurants offer a wide range of options, from quick snacks like hot dogs and french fries to more substantial meals including traditional Czech dishes. You can find everything from cafes serving coffee and cakes to larger eateries with seating areas, ensuring you can refuel whenever you need to.
In addition to dining options, the zoo is equipped with various amenities designed to make your visit comfortable and enjoyable. You'll find well-maintained restrooms, playgrounds for children to burn off some energy, and souvenir shops where you can purchase a memento of your trip. The park also provides ample benches and picnic areas, allowing you to relax and enjoy the beautiful surroundings. This comprehensive infrastructure ensures that all visitors have a great time, from the youngest to the oldest.
